VOR Measurements

Canard offers a revolutionary tool for the maintenance and calibration activities of VOR facilities. By integrating an VOR signal measurement device in our RPAs, we are able to provide parameters such as azimuth error or field strength. These parameters are geolocated with cm level accuracy thanks to the precise satellite positioning system of our RPAs. With this data we can generate reports and graphs with the same measurements that are currently being used by VOR maintenance and inspection technicians, such as:

  • Alignments, angles
  • Azimuth error
  • Modulations
  • Structure

We pair this hardware solution with our software tools for mission planning, data processing and asset management.  

Canard provides a reliable and economical support tool for reducing the time and cost of conventional VOR flight inspections, increasing the automation and intelligence in the calibration of airport NAVAID systems. This is achieved by taking over part of the procedures that the airplane carries out.

Our RPAs operate both day and night, and align with the airports’ specific maintenance requirements.

VOR Measurements with RPAs

Canard measures the VOR signal to support the calibration and maintenance activities of VOR facilities. By taking over part of the measurements and procedures, the time and cost of the VOR flight inspection and maintenance activities is reduced. Our RPAs (Remote Piloted Aircraft, or drones) use precise satellite positioning (with cm level accuracy) to achieve the required level of precision in their measurements.
